Password Security with KeePass

We recommend using KeePass to securely store passwords.
This is installed by default on all new Windows computers provided by the IT team.
There is also a version available for Mac computers: KeePass 2.x for MacOS - KeePass
When you save an account, if you put in the URL in the correct field then you can use shortcuts to very quickly fill in a login for either web apps or ones installed on your computer. (Command U to open the web page, Command B to copy the username, Command C to copy the password). It clears the clip board after a few seconds which means you are not likely to paste a password in error where is may be compromised.
If you use the suggested passwords from KeePass when setting up new accounts you can get to a point where you never have to look at or know a password. It’s pretty secure.
If teams need to share credentials then they can create a KeePass file and save it on OneDrive, Teams or Dropbox. If they sync that locally then multiple people can use the same file and will get updates made by others. It is a bit manual, and requires a bit of thought from the users.
Given the level of threat in internet security in current times it is worth the effort that comes with it.
Another way to use this system on a Windows computer is to install KeePass Client for Desktop from the Microsoft Store.
